Start Praying Wusta Homeowners!

Here's a thought. If we're in a recession, and undoubtedly, locally, a lot of folks are feeling it, and banks are reluctantly lending money to small businesses, for that matter, any business, how then is Worcester going to attract new businesses if the financing isn't available? Is Mayor Joseph M. Petty gonna call Duddie and beg him to open the cash faucets? Assuming Duddie will even take Joe's call.

I'm curious how Mayor Joseph M. Petty is going to sell the city's less than attractive persona to outsiders. Interestingly he hasn't bothered putting out an economic revival plan for public perusal. That’s an ominous sign in itself.

Forget doing the real work of recruiting companies. Admittedly even that would require divine intervention. But hey, why bother? What can a part-time mayor actually contribute, considering he's employed by the state, not the City of Worcester. We’re secondary.

So start praying Wusta homeowners, your days are numbered. Last one out, please turn out the lights.

I don't have a hard copy of it, but I did listen to the actual speech by Joe Petty when I attended the inauguration--live and in person.

I heard the word "safety" a lot especially in the first half, and I thought I saw a actual nod to Jim McGovern, sitting int he prime spot in the front row.

Why does Worcester have to have such a close link to our local Congressman?

The first part of the speech was about Petty's high praises for the "safety" blah, blah, blah. It was only in the last decade that I actually got that when local politicians talk about "supporting safety"--at least in Massachusetts and in Worcester--they usually are saying they will continue to "support" (ie pay high salaries, etc) to the police and fire unions etc.

A similar note was sung about teacher's unions.

A $500K benefit to Elm Park was thrown announced--Thanks, Joe--but I kept wondering if that was to shut up certain loudmouths who live over that way ( I really did. I'm that cynical)

I would love to get a hard/digital copy so I can further analyze it. I know one guy to my left was taping it on his iPhone...

But overall I was sincerely glad to be there and to celebrate the themes that were expressed for the City we all love. No kidding.

re the elm park benefit--Either I am really cynical or really so full of my own self importance that I am delusional.

because when I Googled "illusions of grandiosity", it came up with some site that actually links Elmparkblogger, the DSM-IV and narcissism on steroids

jk

City yes, the politicians and greedy business people - no.

Did ya go with the free bus?

Jim, you actually paid $25 for a ticket?

Why wasn't the inauguration sponsored by the so-called business community? That's the least they could do considering they're getting their taxes cut.

I wanna squeeze this in, info about ElmParkBlogger.

According to Wusta's premier lifer Jim aka EPB, is a big college advocate (his opinion, w/o them there'd be no Wusta), and property owner (rents to students but won't rent to families). I get that right Jim?

You see folks, EPB is a rental property owner who would willingly drags down an entire neighbor all in the pursuit of a profit. He'd screw the homeowner, the family who's lived there for 2 generations. Right Jim? He says, if they don't like what he's doing to their neighborhood, fuck em - move if they don't like it.

People like Jim actually destroy Wusta, not build it. But he doesn't see it that way.

Jim, whata ya gonna do with the money from the new lower taxes on your rental properties. Reduce the rent? Create a job?
