Night Life, Spring 2012

As I recall, two years ago the T&G's Dianne Williamson offered a writing course. It wasn’t repeated. Heard the school department couldn’t afford her, wanted big bucks cause she works for the award winning T&G. Those folks want the really big bucks for doing the night school circuit.

Hey did ya know the ole girl recently won a NEN&PA award for Serious Columnist. Yeah seriously? Ya think they made that category up for her? Don’t recall seeing it before.

Anyway. It’s that time of the year and Night Life is offering really interesting stuff: bread-making, basket-making, how to make pizza... stuff to pep-up your resume. Even got a Learn to Play the Harmonica course. Now that would be sumptin for Bill Randell. And even got a Irish Tin Whistle course, sumptin for Paulie Collyer. Imagine Bill & Paulie doing a duet at NOLA 2012. Hey guys, how about doin Stairway to Heaven?

Been thinking about a second job; maybe offering my services to Night Life. Got a few courses in mind:
  • Managing your public image on the Internet
  • How to blog and win sycophants
  • How to manage a bi-weekly newspaper in the digital age
  • Practicing civility on the Internet
  • How to achieve and maintain credibility on the Internet
Any takers? It'll be a lotta fun. And free beer.

A funny thing. That picture of Dianne in the T&G, next to her column. Well my grandfather said that's the same picture they been using for the past 30 years. Time just stands still in Wusta eh?

I got the catalog. Can't say I was overly impressed by the "enrichment"-type courses, but there's the usual lineup of legitimate career certification courses, i.e. journeyman plumber, electrician, Cisco networking, a bunch of others.

Of course you had to leave all that out of your essay right Will? Can't let the facts get in the way of a good joke. I did like the bit about the Irish Tin Whistle, though.

    Love,
    NightLife CEO

Hey anon, essay you say? At least you got the point.

As for the cert stuff. Instead of pocketing the proceeds and giving it to union employees, how about doing some real recruiting.

Instead of booklets at the library etc. put the booklets at plumbing supply store etc. Future oil techs, plumbers etc. don't go to the library.

How about getting Rosie T. our local digital dinosaur to do a course: How To Adapt To New Media.

Maybe you guys would consider ole Will for a spot or two? Could use the money. Just kidding about the beer.

    And bring back Dianne!

Zed dude, come on, you been hiding underneath a rock or sumptin?

I've taken stuff in the past - software. All in all, worth the money. Ain't so sure about the bread and pizza courses. For 30 bucks (cost of course) I could get
a heap of bread and pizza at the supermarket. Or maybe make it my self.

    Wonder how many folks attend?
